November  often brings its share of contrasts, and this year is no exception. While many mountain ranges have just received  surprising amounts of snow  for the season, and several departments remain under a yellow snow and ice warning, the situation will evolve much faster than one might imagine. According to La  Chaîne Météo (The Weather Channel) , November is generally characterized by rather bright weather with around thirteen sunny days. However, a third of the month remains threatened by persistent rain, while temperatures usually fluctuate between 7°C in the morning and 12°C in the afternoon. After a brief polar interlude, France will return to a very wet autumnal pattern… but that's not all. Here's what awaits you in the coming days.

November 2025 weather: between biting cold, snowfall and the first complications

As if winter had decided to make an early appearance, the country found itself in the middle of the week  under the influence of a northerly flow  bringing significantly colder air. On Wednesday, November 26,  snow fell at very low altitudes , sometimes as low as 400 meters according to  Tameteo.com . As a result, several departments were placed under a yellow alert for snow and ice, particularly around mountain ranges. Motorists had to be extra careful, as roads were sometimes covered in snow from the early hours of the morning.

The French mountain ranges—the Pyrenees, Alps, Jura, and Massif Central—were particularly blessed with surprisingly heavy snowfall for late November. This brought a welcome boost to ski resorts, even if the respite might be short-lived. Fortunately, some sunny spells managed to break through in western France, from Normandy to Nouvelle-Aquitaine, offering a glimmer of hope for a temporary improvement. Temperatures, however, remained  highly variable  : only 4°C recorded in Langres and Aurillac, compared to 16°C in Nice and Toulon. This significant temperature difference was even more pronounced in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, and Grand Est regions, where highs often struggled to reach 5 or 6°C.

Another cold, damp Thursday… before a decisive turning point

If you were hoping for some milder weather on Thursday, you'll have to wait a little longer.  Humidity  will persist, particularly in the western half of the country where light rain is expected throughout most of the day. In the Pyrenees, snow will continue to fall, but at higher altitudes, above 1500 meters this time.
